TAKING THE RAIN

Dazzling in the dim rain

a pariah kite perched as usual

on a tall telephone tower,

hoists its grey wings like sails

as if sailing in the wind

taking the rain,

then arches its plumage as if

 ready to lift—taking the rain,

holding at bay the big surge to be air-borne,

taking the rain–

then spreads the power wings full length

and off—launched on a glad gliding path

through wind and the ministry of rain

across the misbegotten parched delinquent city

also taking the rain.
