A review by Dr. Ashok Chakravarthy Tholana
If you love the people around, if you love the nature around and if you strongly aspire to provide succour to the hunger and needy; – is it not enough for any human to feel a sort of contentment in leading the precious life with such a righteous mind. Loving and showing concern towards every living being is a great good gesture and all these prized characteristics adorn Dr. Ezhil Vendhan, the poet who wields his pen with a rare insight and rousing vision that entices any reader. This can definitely be ascertained if one goes through his new poetry collection, titled, “FLUORESCENT FEATHERS”.
In the poem, “An Intercede”, the poets concern for the most essential and preferential humane love and concern towards one another can be perceived here …. Compose yourself of the best / as this life is precious and you only live once / make out maximum sweetness you can / to the life and lessen the bitterness. The poet further espouses his concern towards the self-centric and superiority complex characteristics of certain invisible enemies who uncover their ugly faces by equipping themselves with the all-powerful weapons of mass destruction and bent upon to spread violence and destruction. As the destructors could anytime parade as powerful than all; the Poet prefers to express the untold agony and sufferings of innocent civilians caught in such a vortex; reflectively crafted the poem “Invisible Enemy” and pleads, …. Oh, Almighty Lord of omnipotent / bless me with enormous strength / lend me your luminous light / that would kill my invisible enemy / as to save the humanity around the globe. Similar concern is found to have been expressed in the poem, “No More War”
Like the uninterrupted waves of the sea, the poet’s fond attachment with nature is a highlight of this poetry collection who unknowingly intoxicate the readers with the waves of appealing write-ups. His writings spread the message that love and concern for the nature and humanity bestows a lasting peace and that it is the right option for humanity to opt, instead of dallying under the spell of ego, power, pride, lust and wrath. Every reader can find ample space to acknowledge the poet’s perception while going through the poems, Honey Bee / Butterfly / Banyan Tree / Rain / Seagull / Flamingo / Baya Weaver / Sunbird / Eagle / Peacock / Robin / Rooster / Dove / Sparrow / Parrot / Swan. These poems are predominated with the element of steadfast love and endowed with the spirit to glorify by all means the elements of nature, the environment, the earth, the sky, the wind, the water so on. “The Beauty Of Silence” is another such poem jotted with a similar bent of mind. And, none-the-less, Dr. Ezhil’s quest for childhood memories has been expressed fabulously in the poem, “Fondness” …. I have no limitations / boundaries in my thoughts / hopefully genuine, unbiased and honest // I play with petals / confidante to flowers / beetles and butterflies // I Am fond of going back to my childhood.
The poem, ‘Flowers Not For Sale” is indeed a very powerful and thought-provoking poem that exposes the passionate attachment of the poet with poetry and exemplify the inexplicable feelings of the poet. Apart the worldly happenings around, the intimacy, friendship, affection, relations, realities, motherly and family bondages, etc., amply prove, how deep and how strong Dr. Ezhil feels attached with them. May his endless stream of poems transform and influence the world to peep into the other side of the enlightened world too.
I whole-heartedly wish Great Good Luck to Dr. Ezhil in bringing our this “FLUORESCENT FEATHERS” fantastic and far-sighted collection and I strongly recommend the literature lovers to read this valued collection of poems, that will definitely enthuse, enthral and captivate the readers time and again.
