Poems by Dr. Ratan Ghosh

God is dead

Thousands, Millions Billions

Leaving the mythical honey trap

Leaving the fathom full of hate-sea

Leaving the path full of darkness

The rulers of this earth seem worried now like their ruler

They both have deep sigh in anguish!

When they see

The crowd of blooming petals approaching

Questioning the faith

When they see

Countless youths are approaching

And questioning them

In search of truth

God is dead

God is dead, they know

Soon or late….

Gone enough

Gone enough

in my river of pain!

Innumerable stars lost like floating hyacinth

Perhaps floating still on a flooded stream

Innumerable still fortunately surviving like a caged bird

However, every day they pass

through lightening of  threats!

An invisible, unknown but inevitable destiny is constantly whispering even in sleep

“Convert or leave”

The wind is blowing fast like a black horse

Anything may happen like 1946

Now, tears fall no more

Enough fell so far

And wet my bed with blood

Even I feel now perspiration is drying up from my panting skin in fear

The beatings of my heart are now tuning into fearfully fearless pulse

The skin is losing its glow slowly though

The helpless bones are waiting to be fractured in silence

My sleepless neurons are no more able to respond

Light is quietly losing

As once, light was lost from my ancestral home

Gone enough!

Gone enough from my homeland!

I am not a Lotus Eater

I have no time to live

in a den of pleasure

I can’t wane my time

in a Lotus land

Where sleepers sleeping for decades

I can’t…

I see these Lotus Eaters

Surrounding me

I can’t live among them, I know

History always haunts me

It always keeps me awake

It’s always haunting my veins

even in sleep

I feel always

The smell of bones left decades before haunting my nose

even in sleep

I see always

The huge crowd of dead bodies haunting my senses

even in sleep

I feel always

The drops of blood still dripping so quietly from unnamed burials

even in sleep

I feel always

How they all are still writing the name of my homeland with Red Blood

They are writing my sad tales in my sky still

They are painting my painful memories

I walk among them

even in sleep

to listen to the painful calls of my sisters

to listen to the wails coming from million  burials

to listen to the wails coming from of the train compartments

Those trains carried the blood of my father, grand-father

to listen to the wails of innocent children

Who moaned, moaned, moaned for decades

from far and near

for their humble Ma and Baba

I walk among them

to listen to the calls of those muddy paths

They too are heavily burdened with the spot of blood

I walk among them

to listen to the calls of  Feni and  Padma

They are still trying to whisper the tales of blood bath

I can’t live

Never have I time to live in sleep

So long, I listen to the wails of my memories

from the burials of East Bengal…
